How Social Media Can Influence Our Daily Lives?

Can you imagine your life without social media?

Social media has dramatically influenced our daily life- the way we think, assume, believe, interact with people, and the way we look at the things. Modern life is now depended on social media and its consequences. Social media (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, etc) is taking control of our daily lives and no one can deny that. Nowadays the use of the social media is increasing day by day with high rate in all over the world. Among all age group of people are moving quickly from electronic media such as television viewers and radio listeners to the social media.

Today social media is something which has become so necessary for us. Every day when we wake up in the morning the first thing we do and the last thing we do before going to bed is checking out our social media profile. Social media keeps us up to date about the world and has become a great platform to get knowledge about entertainment, news, art, and much more. Now we don’t need to listen to the radio, watch television or even we don’t need to check the news channel because social media has provided us all the necessary information, all in one place. It has also become the great place to gather information about anyone and anything we want to. Just take an example, when-we need blood for our patients and there is-no blood available in blood bank, we take the help of social media and make a post something like the urgently needed B positive blood and people with a B positive blood group come to help us.

Social media is changing the way we communicate with the people. It is bringing people closer and making the world smaller. Now when we miss our loved ones, we can easily make a call or even we can see them through video chat. Before a decade it is very difficult to connect and communicate with the people we know but now social media such as Facebook, Instagram etc are making it easier for us to get in touch with one another and reconnect with old friends, even after decades of being apart.

Nowadays everyone is on Facebook or such social media platforms so, instead of sending invitation card for wedding parties, birthday parties, or such events people use social media and invite them through a text, instead of wishing birthday through phone calls people wish on social media, and instead of face to face discussion people now make groups on social media and discuss through the chat.

Additionally, social media affects our self-esteem and makes us insecure. Knowing what our friends are doing, where they are going, what success they are achieving may end up comparing ourselves to them. If we are not doing something as great or exciting, we may feel worthless. Our self-esteem becomes dented we feel more insecure. In some cases, to counteract this, we may then make stories up and become the victim of web lies. Also, when we post an image or a status we expect enough likes and comments but when we see that we have not gotten enough likes on our post we feel disappointed. We feel like no one cares about us and this kind of thoughts leading us towards anxiety, frustration, and depression.

Social media has affected every part of our daily lives. When we get leisure time or even in between of intervals we go through social media. We do not feel like we are wasting our time when using social media too much. We are staying focused on our social media life and forgetting about the real world.

Although technology is beneficial to communication and allows people to stay in touch, we need to find a balance between the virtual world and the real world. These technological advancements might be incredible and essential in today’s life, but we must be careful to not to lose sight of the people who are physically around us.

How social media is affecting your daily life? Please feel free to share.
