Looking at a business perspective, Social Media Marketing has offered a large variety of new opportunities for companies to promote their brand, products, and services. But we often hear that social media marketing doesn’t work or it’s all fake etc.  Actually, that is not true. Social media marketing does help to grow your business and reach your goals. If you want to use social media marketing effectively then you need to identify the areas where your campaign fell short.

In today’s article we are going to talk about five common social media mistakes that you need to avoid.

1. Not taking social media marketing seriously

Marketing is not that easy as we thought. Many companies might have not taking social media marketing seriously and you could be one of them. Uploading some images or videos of your products will not help you to make your campaign successful. You need to be clear about your goal- what you want, where you want to be and how to get there, who is your targeted audience because it will help you to make an effective social media marketing strategy.

2.Treating each social media platform equally

Another mistake that companies can make is falling to treat each social media channel differently. Posting the same content to all your channels without differentiating or truly understanding the nuances of the platforms is the biggest mistake that you are making.  Each social media channel has different features and functionality. You can use Facebook as a communication tool with the different groups and community, Youtube for uploading videos, Twitter for interacting with your audience one-to-one and Instagram for posting images and day to day update of your business. So, If you want to reach your goal and attract more customer, you have gotta give them something different in each place.

3. Not responding to questions and comments

Having customers or followers who ask questions and leave comments on your social sites are great but what matters the most is are you responding them timely? If no, then here you are making the mistake. Leaving comments hanging unanswered on your social media pages is not good for your brand image. Make a strategy to respond to comments especially on the negative ones. Be polite and try to understand customer’s view.

 

4. Not identifying your targeted audience

Every business has a target audience for whom they designed or create products. It is essential to identify your target audience. What they most like? Where they mostly hang out? What kind of post grabs their attention? What content is most suitable to them?  Once you truly know your audience, you can then build strong relationships with them. You may be working very hard, but not defining a clear audience for your marketing would result negative towards your social media marketing efforts.

5. Failing to choose the right social media channel

Not all social media channels are fruitful for your business. Different social media channels attract different audiences. There’s no point spending your time on a particular social network if your target audience is not there. Go only where your audience goes. Once you determine where your target audience hang out most, then it will be easy for you to make an effective social media marketing strategy.

 

Social Media Marketing is an extremely powerful marketing tool for any business to promote their brand. Each platform is evolving day by day, providing more and more advanced marketing features for businesses. On top of that, it is still very new and needs to be executed through a real and strong concretely defined strategy.
